Five Crosses Circle
With the triangular church rendering logo receiving mixed reaction in Mahone Bay, I wanted to try other ways of representing the five churches equally. Crosses were the easy solution, with all churches being of popular sects of Christianity. However, putting 5 Latin crosses all aligned in the same way makes the flag looks like a graveyard, no matter where you put them, and no lovely traditional town would want that on its flag! Moving the crosses around in my mind, I tried putting them all with their bases together like a star, but that just looked like some cult stick figure, even more so within a shape! Putting the crosses with their heads together, though, limited in distance by the arms like here, on the other hand, gave an interesting symbol with beautiful symmetries that doesn’t blatantly put the 5 crosses “in your face”, though they are easy enough to see if you look for them. Instead of trimming this new motif in white trim on blue, though, I made the design a little more interesting to put on a Canadian pale field.
Constructive criticisms welcomed. Thank you.
REFERENCE
Mahone Bay is a small town of about 1000 residents on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. It is a picturesque tourism destination, especially the iconic three churches along the waterfront of the bay itself, though there are five churches in the town! It has a historic boat/ship building heritage, with more transport and industrial ships in the past, and more pleasure crafts in the present, from all materials but especially wood historically. It is also a current haven for entrepreneurs and business startups growing its population.
