When I found out Wild Ginger fashion design software had a pattern choice for a body suit, I was so stoked! Being a geek and nerd, you can just imagine how many cosplays I have at my disposal being able to make body suits. I can even make some for girls! However, it was the practical thought of having superhero body suits to run in that was most appealing to me! Why run around in boring running clothes, and not great ones at that for a little 5’2″ 108 lb guy like me, when you can do it in a chic superhero outfit? I’ve had the same thing running clothes for about 15 years cause it’s so hard to find stuff that fits, or can be tailored properly to avoid causing chafing or wardrobe malfunctions. Besides, the streets could use a little livening up if superheroes and villains were running around them.

My Pink Star Trek Uniform for the Halifax Pride Parade 2012
Recently, I was privileged to be able to participate in the Halifax Natal Day Parade. I was with a float representing Hal-Con, Halifax’s sci-fi,fantasy & gaming convention run completely by much-too-dedicated volunteers. We had a truck and a whole bunch of people in cosplays of various style, including sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk, anime, board and video games, and some original characters. For the occasion, I made a pink “Pride in Star Trek” (The Next Generation) uniform, as shown below.

My Klingon Makeover
On Saturday, June 2nd, I got a chance of a lifetime to be made over into a Klingon from Star Trek. It was part of a movie make-up demonstration by Marc Deveault of Trauma-Sim, assisted by Tansy Rudnicki, for Gus-Con at the Museum of Natural History in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was a phenomenal experience which took about 1.5 hours, after which I roamed around the city in character with my friend Halley Davies, who was also my photographer and had a blast! Ten Preparation Tips for Cosplayers in Photo Shoots
These are simple, but effective, things a cosplayer can do to prepare for a photo shoot to make good use of time and minimize poor features in photos taken. Get in a state of mind to prepare for it like you would for a prom or wedding shoot so you know some shots you want, practice it and have your cosplay in as nice a condition as possible.
