If your life story were a jigsaw puzzle, what would it look like?

I wrote a short poem in tanka format about a week ago. In it, I pondered if my life story were a jigsaw puzzle, what would it look like? Now, and what I hope it would look like at the end.

Today, I finally did that “mental exercise” that could also be good for a writing exercise. My answer is below, but if you want to try it yourself, I would suggest you not read further untilΒ after you have tried it yourself, so as not to be influenced by ideas. πŸ™‚

I enjoyed the exercise, and I hope you will, too, if you decide to give it a try.

The poem will be on my poetry blog on November 2nd. I have a large back log of short poems so I am sharing one or two per day in chronological sequence among sequences of poems in common collections.

Apocalyptic Meal (fun language)

When I cook meals that are intended to empty my fridge, or lots of containers in them with only a little ingredient in each, I call them apocalyptic meals.

They’re symbolically apocalyptic in a few ways:

  • They wipe out a lot of the food left, if not all of it.
  • There is no food left for tomorrow, cause you’re assuming there won’t be a tomorrow. πŸ™‚

Seriously, why call them empty out the fridge meals, or some term like quiche that’s a mish-mash of leftovers, when you can use a more potent term like apocalyptic meal? Sounds great on the phone, too!

“I’m cooking an apocalyptic meal for supper!”

List of Animal Group Names (Collective Nouns)

What are groups of various kinds of animals called? There are aΒ lot of answers, sometimes for the same animal! I’ve tracked down the animals on this list for my need to know and am sharing in case anybody out there also wants to know. There are some good lists out there but I needed this formatted this way for my needs. I hope it is useful, or at least interesting, to you as well. πŸ™‚

Radio Station Playing Only Music by Dead Musicians?

Just an idea that came to me during one of my free thinking sessions I practice to try to think of interest, slightly radical ideas to keep my mind open and abstract as I aged. πŸ™‚

What if there were a radio station that only played popular music by musicians who were deceased? Its repertoire could literally grow all the time, to include entire catalogs of new musicians having just passed away. In fact, it could do tributes to them by introducing new catalogs over several hours each day following the deaths.

I understand it might seem morbid to have that cloud of thought overhanging your listening enjoyment, that all these people were dead, but I get quite reflective some time listening to music by people no longer with us. And you might get a few surprises to hear songs by people you didn’t know had died. That’s when the reflection would kick in for me.

As for groups, play songs people who passed away had a hand in writing if they didn’t sing, or only songs they sung, and make it clear at the beginning and/or end, of course.

And hopefully, nobody listening will hope someone will die soon so they can hear their music on the station. Just turn the dial, eh? πŸ™‚

Initial Reflections on 3-Day Novel Contest

Three Day LogoI successfully completed the 3-Day Novel Contest yesterday just in the nick of time. During my recovery time a day later, when I’m scheduled to work half a day, I wanted to make some notes upon reflecting upon the experience. No, I did not write like that during the weekend. πŸ™‚

While I had the notes, I wanted to share.
