Definition: Ayahuasca, Ayahuasca Tourism, Icaros

A more obscure example of “Drug tourism” or “Psychedelic tourism” (my term). Americans coming to Canada (or other destinations) to smoke weed legally is definitely a real phenomenon, though!

Ayahuasca

Brew made from leaves of Psychotria viridis shrub and stalks of the Banisteriopsis caapi vine, though other plants and ingredients can also be added

Ayahuasca Tourism

tourism to experience ayahuasca

Icaros

South American indigenous colloquialism for magic song, which may “come” to a shaman during ceremony

Definition: Drug or Psychedelic Tourism

The real deal now with Americans coming to Canada (among other destinations) to smoke weed legally. This is my term, though, as I’m not aware there is such a term.

Bit of a mix today from content from various sources…

Definition: Spirit House, Witch (Coffin) Window, Haint Paint

“Spooky architecture” (my term, see Feb 5 post) words today…

Spirit House

Purpose-built structure to invite spirits to stay in so they don’t stay in houses where people lived

Witch Window (also Coffin Window)

Conventional vertical windows, just tilted at an angle so witches can’t fly through them

Haint Paint

Blue paint on the ceilings of outdoor porches, to ward off ghosts or spirits

Definition: Tanuki, Topping Out, Dragon Gate

So many cool new words and terms in one short story that I’ll put it into two posts!

Tanuki

Japanese raccoon dog that looks like a raccoon but isn’t (or even close biologically)

Topping Out

Scandinavian practice of putting a tree or wreath on top of a new house and building to appease tree spirits, as if to say “thank you” to the forest for the wood used

Dragon Gate

Huge gaps in the middle of Southeast Asian skyscrapers to allow dragons to fly through from ocean to mountains.

Now this is a slightly crazy looking, but fun, concept that is taken very seriously!
