Proposed Flag for League City, TX – Design E2

LEAGUE CITY, TX (USA)
Design E2
Four oaks with leaf in shield

Like Design E1 except the leaf is now in a shield instead of in a circle, to bring a bit more of the “League” in the League City name into the design. The shield is also much more distinctive than the circle to hold the knocked out leaf logo. However, as mentioned before, I thought there was a misalignment between the symbolism of something strong like a shield, and something frail like a leaf to be on it. I also want to point out that “Leaf” and “League” sound similar enough, and could both be city names equally well, that if someone had handed me the Councillor’s design reference in Design A1, and verbally told me for which city it was a design, I have no doubt I would have thought the person said “Leaf” City instead of “League” City. But as for the leaf in shield design, even it looks nice, and would also work as badges city staff like law enforcement could wear!

REFERENCE
League City, Texas, is a city of about 112,000 in the southeast corner of the Greater Houston metropolis. The city has four founding families, but the League name came from J.C. League who developed the city along then existing railways. Over the years, trees have proven important to the city, with oak trees from 1907 lining Main Street, the city seal containing an oak tree, and the recent 60th anniversary of incorporation using an oak tree leaf. The city has several flags recently (last pic), all with more than just white and variations of green for colours that is on their website and recent branding.
