Proposed Flag for League City, TX – Design B2

LEAGUE CITY, TX (USA)
Design B2
Metaphorical geographically nested leaf shield

This design is a slight variation of Design B1, but with an entirely new concept of a shield instead of a circle to hold the oak tree leaf symbol. With the city being named “League”, I made the connection to the shield symbol used by many sports leagues. Among those shields, I chose something similar to, but not exactly as, that used by the National Football League (NFL) because of how important (American) football is to Texas. It was into such a shield, of different shape than most used in heraldry to avoid unintended associations, that I put the leaf symbol. I did this despite feeling the fragile leaf is rather unaligned to the strong shield used for defense (and even weaponry). The leaf is League City’s symbol, after all.

REFERENCE
League City, Texas, is a city of about 112,000 in the southeast corner of the Greater Houston metropolis. The city has four founding families, but the League name came from J.C. League who developed the city along then existing railways. Over the years, trees have proven important to the city, with oak trees from 1907 lining Main Street, the city seal containing an oak tree, and the recent 60th anniversary of incorporation using an oak tree leaf. The city has several flags recently (last pic), all with more than just white and variations of green for colours that is on their website and recent branding.
