My Gus-Con Weekend

On the weekend of June 1-3, the Museum of Natural History in Halifax, Nova Scotia, held an event called Gus-Con. It was  3 day event filled with lectures, presentations and panels that pays tribute to the Comic Book Convention that has become such a popular and important part of the Sci-Fi world (schedule at bottom). The name honoured the museum’s Gopher Tortoise, Gus. The exhibit featured a variety of costumes, which you can see in my gallery below, but Gus-Con added to that by having talks, displays, special exhibits, contests, a costume ball, etc.

At Gus-Con, I got a Klingon makeover where I was turned into a Klingon from Star Trek. My friend and photographer, Halley Davies, then also got made-up as a zombie. Together, we roamed around town Saturday, and attended the costume gala ball. I came back Sunday for more events, including the model maker’s showcase and talks by the Jules Verne Phantastical Society to learn much more about steampunk, dieselpunk and other punks! The photos in the gallery below documented my Gus-Con weekend, except for my Klingon makeover that was in the previous post.

It was a very fun event attended by many, and a good time was had by all! I hope they’ll do it again next year!
