Comet_ISON_discoveryOn the Eve of (Mayan) Destruction, which so many people have predicted to be the end of the world, I thought I’d play a little sooth-saying of my own! Mind you, my prediction is a little bit more scientifically based.

Right now, there’s a little comet sitting about 600 million miles (965 million km) away, beyond Jupiter. It’s called Comet ISON, or C/2012 S1. ISON stands for International Scientific Optical Network. It is an organization to which the comet’s two discoverers belong (Artyom Novichonok and Vitali Nevski). They discovered it on September 24th, 2012.

I’ve heard the famous song, (Somewhere) Over the Rainbow, in many, many styles, but not country… until today. I found out about this very moving rendition by Canadian country legend, Ian Tyson, via a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation series called Rainbow Battle pitting different renditions against one another. Ian’s performance completely took me by surprise and entranced me, I must say! Have a listen!

I am able to do a lot of things where I am able to leave on my large collection of oldies music to listen to. When I say oldies, I mean oldies, like 1930s and 1940s. Every now and then, while I’m toiling away, something will come on that will stop me dead in my tracks to listen and enjoy. I absolutely LOVE those moments, and there’s no shortage of them, I assure you, because there’s a LOT of great oldies music!

The latest discovery for me is this gem, Whisky Head Woman, by Tommy McClennan, that is 1939 Delta Blues. Listen to the song and see the full lyrics below.
